2014. That’s when I started this thing. I was unemployed at the time, and wouldn’t get a job until the following year in mid-2015. Fast-forward a little more than a decade, I’m 51 years old, and that same job is now coming to an end on December 1st.
Looking back on this blog (do people still blog?), it’s an interesting time capsule. I was still mostly playing PS3 and Wii U games of all things! We now have the PS5, Switch 2 (I’ve never even spoken about the Switch 1 here), and gaming on Linux is more popular than it ever was thanks to devices like Valve’s Steam Deck and gaming-focused distros like Bazzite. PC gaming continues to thrive as stores like GOG focus even more on classic games preservation, and now many first-party console games from Sony and Microsoft can be found and played on Steam.
Things have also gotten a lot more expensive. In the US, Best Buy’s Gamer Club Unlocked no longer exists, base games are increasingly costing $70 (with exceptions such as Mario Kart World costing $80), a 2TB Xbox Series X will run you $800, and well, we won’t talk about what’s going on with RAM prices as of this post.
Anyway, as I mentioned above, with my job ending, thinking about this blog is something I’ve been doing a lot lately, and I’ll likely do some more long-form video game-related posts here while I take a break from what has been a particularly difficult past few years. You can also find me on Bluesky, where I post about games as well, but that’s been mostly about Gundam plastic models (Gunpla/plamo) in 2025. If you’re into that sort of thing.
If you’re still subscribed, then it’s nice to see you again. If you’re new, then welcome! Thanks as always for reading, and enjoy the rest of the year.
